| More recently science has allowed for new varieties of farm plant and animals. This has been accomplished by manipulating the genetic code in order to produce new characteristics = genetic engineering / recombinant DNA technology Enzymes allow for the manipulation of these code changes, by cutting, and copying (cloning), genes and moving them to another organism. This type of enzyme is considered a restriction enzyme. Ex: new fields of health care, new types of more efficient plants and animals, as well as provide chemicals needed for human health care. This may lead to drugs for correcting some human health defects. such as chemicals being mass produced by human genes in bacteria include insulin, human growth hormone, and interferon.
This genetic engineering will reduce cost and side effects of replacing missing human body chemicals. While genetic engineering technology has many practical benefits, its use has also raised many legitimate ethical concerns. |
