Selective Breeding

Selective breeding has occurred for thousands of years.

EX: cultivation of new varieties of new plants and domestic animals, for specific traits.

This process "Selective Breeding" is done to produce offspring with desirable traits and they are then mated to individuals with/ the same type to produce more offspring with those traits.

Hybridization is a form of selective breeding: cross 2 individual with traits that are wanted in offspring.

Ex: Santa Gertrudis cattle (Formed by crossing Brahman and English shorthorns; has good heat resistance and beef)
An Example of Selective Breeding

Brahman cattle:
Good resistance to heat but poor beef.

English shorthorn cattle: Good beef but poor heat resistance.
