Nervous Regulation

Nerve cells and Neurons allow cells to communicate with each other.

Using neuron communication is a way that the organism can detect and respond to stimuli at the cellular and organismal level.

This response will help maintain homeostasis in the cell or organism.

Neurons can stimulate other nerve cells or muscle cells to help produce contraction to produce movement.

Structures & Functions of Nerves:

Dendrite- neuron branch which detects stimuli- changes in environment.

Cyton- Body of the neurons where normal metabolic activities occur.

Axon- longest dendrite covered by a myelin sheath for electrical insulation, can carry a message or impulse to the end brushes.

End brushes- release nerve chemicals = neurotransmitters, stimulate nearby dendrites on the next neuron or muscle cell.
