Meiosis

In the process or sexual reproduction gametes or sex cells are needed.

These gametes and sex cells are produced during Meiosis.

The process of Meiosis is similar to Mitosis with some differences.

Meiosis end product will be gametes, and mitosis will produce other cells.

During meiosis, the chromosome number will be cut in half from the original parent cell into the four cells that it forms.

In meiosis 2 cells divide forming 4 cells, while mitosis has one cell forming 2 cells.

When meiosis and mitosis begin they both first replicate the chromosome material.

During the exchange of chromosome pieces, "Crossing Over," in the beginning of division.

Crossing over creates genetically distinct variations in the offspring as compared to the parent.
